A long month of October is here. And what better way to spend the month than committing to our October Practice Challenge?
What is the Practice Challenge:
Practice every day for 1 month, from October 1st–31st.
How Long do I Have to Practice:
You choose how much time to practice each day. I recommend a minimum of 15 minutes, but doing some amount every day is what is most important.
What do I Practice?:
You can practice anything you want. However, I always recommend making a small but specific practice goal for each practice session. For example: “Today, I am going to practice the first part of my solo piece.”
Why:
We build a habit and routine of daily practice. Also, committing to a daily discipline helps us develop resilience that helps strengthen our character. In doing so, we create an environment to succeed at long-term goals.
What Do I get if I Complete the Challenge:
Besides the intrinsic rewards like fulfillment, strengthening our character, and becoming a better musician and flutist, on Monday, October 30th at 6:00 pm we will get together on Zoom for 15–20min to announce the winners of the October Practice Challenge and share what was challenging and rewarding for each of us about this challenge.
What if I Miss a Day:
No worries, keep going! If you miss a day of practice in October, don’t give up. Continue filling out the practice log/calendar until the end of the month.
This October Practice Challenge should be fun and motivating. It will challenge you in many ways, but you will not regret doing it.
Ready? Get Started Now:
Please print out the attached October Practice Challenge Calendar (PDF) and post it on the wall in your room or in the kitchen on the fridge so you have a reminder to practice every day and a public commitment to the challenge! You can even check off each day you practiced or put a sticker on the day for fun. If you’re on social media, feel free to photograph your calendar each day—making a public commitment can give you an extra boost to keep going.
Happy Practicing!
